New York Times ‘stands behind’ its article after attacks by Trump

The New York Times is pushing back against a Sunday morning Twitter storm from President Donald Trump.

The President went on a tirade against the newspaper, condemning his article published Online Saturday that said White House counsel Don McGahn cooperates “extensively” with the Special counsel sample.

The story, by Michael Schmidt and Maggie Haberman, said McGahn has been investigating Mueller with ” detailed reports of the episodes at the heart of the investigation as to whether President Trump obstructs justice.”

“The Failing New York Times wrote a story, it seem like The white house Council [sic] had TURNED on the President, when in fact it is exactly the opposite – and the two Fake reporters knew that,” Trump tweeted. “That’s why the Fake news media has become the enemy of the people. So bad for America!”

He continued: “Some members of the media are very Angry at the Fake story in the New York Times. You actually called to complain and apologize – a big step forward. From the day I announced that the Times was Fake news, and with your disgusting new Board member it’s only getting worse!”

Shortly after Trump’s criticism, the New York Times tweeted that it ” stands behind the reporting of our Pulitzer prize winner @nytmike and @maggieNYT.”The two reporters are often called by the President because of their extensive and well-sourced white house coverage, which he sees as being overly critical.

The Times ‘ story says McGahn has provided information that the Mueller team otherwise would not have learned about, citing a dozen current and former officials of the White house and other persons informed about the matter.

In his tweet, Trump again called the Times “fail”, but the newspaper actually reported a healthy profit in the second quarter. Two years ago, today he also called the times “fail” and “die”.”The Times’ stock is around 77% since this tweet.
